I was really hopeful when I received this today, but I have spent over half an hour trying to thread a size 20 Adams on 6x. Haven’t been able to do it a single time. The tippet just won’t go through. I made sure the eye was clean and the tippet goes through when no fly is in place. But, it just isn’t working for me.
Thanks for the review Mike, and sorry about the trouble. A few things that might help if you haven't tried them already: Make sure you try putting the fly in each slot. Often the slot I think would be best for the fly size isn't actually the best slot to line up the eye with the tippet. Also, try reversing the orentation of the fly. Sometimes that lines up the eye better. Also, make sure the natural curve of the tippet is pointing downward, and choke up a little on the tippet if needed. We've found the lighter the tippet, the more we need to choke up a bit when we push it through. It can take a bit of practice, but we use this day in and day out with small flies. I originally posted the review not impressed at all because the unit I had didnt work. Talweg reached out and provided a replacement unit. I have tested that one with flies from 10-16 and it works great. Have returned the first unit and have the replacement one on my vest and ready to go fishing

Outstanding product
Wanted to love this. In fact, did love it while it worked. Ordered more for my sons. The second batch was sketchy as the tippet would hang up when threading through the device. After some deburring they were serviceable. Then the hook peg broke off mysteriously. I replaced it with a small drill bit glued in place. Then the tool disappeared leaving only the ring that the tether is attached to. All breakage occurred while it was hanging off my vest, so it beats me what caused it. Bushwhacking I guess. Too brittle to hold up.
Thanks for letting us know about this. We haven't heard of these issues from anyone else, but we get them printed at a special supplier here in Utah and if something has changed with quality or materials we need to find out what's up.
