Actually found this by buying a knock off first! Once I had it, I saw an ad for Talweg and realized how much better the original was. Better magnet, better finish, etc. Very glad I went ahead and bought the original. Thank you for making a superior product!
Unfortunately I fell victim to a Chinese-made knockoff but after buying the real thing it made me appreciate the quality and design of the Talewag Fly Roost.
I am a 66 year old fly fisherman that has been fly fishing since I was 10. My poor close vision has taken a lot of the enjoyment out of fly fishing, not being able to see the fly hook eyes to thread my leader through. The FlyRoost looked like the solution to my dilemma. I saw it demonstrated on social media for $22 and decided to try one.
Unfortunately I learned very quickly that what I bought was not the real thing and the flaws in the mold and manufacturing, the hook eye slots and smaller magnet made threading the leader difficult and the molding flaws for the leader slot kept the leader from being released so you could tie the knot. After multiple emails requesting a refund and getting the run around I gave up and purchased the real Talweg Fly Roost.
I found a huge difference in a few small things. First the magnet is much stronger which helps with the hook eye alignment and transitioning the hook for tying the knot. Second was the quality of the hook eye slots. There are three on the real thing and only two on the knockoff but they actually work the majority of the time on the real thing. The slots mold an align the hook eyes much better.
I generally use 6X tippets which on a windy day, are challenging to tie flies on with. The Talweg Roost helps a lot, both wth keeping the fly steady and providing a large enough guide to thread the leader through so that I don’t need to fumble with putting on reader glasses.

Works very well with most flies. At times I struggled with very small ones, but overall it is extremely easy to use and works well.
